Taking my time

The world is in a rush, pushing you towards achieving its goals,

It doesn’t let you catch your breath as your life unfolds,

Wishing for some peace and quiet, wishing to take my time

Wishing the world pauses and doesn’t keep committing the same crime

It moves so quickly, everything feels like spinning too fast,

Let me pause, take a breather, wishing this moment would last

American Crime Story 1

I recently came upon a great mini series on Netflix, it was engaging and really well made. American Crime Story is an American true crime television series. Each season is presented as a self-contained miniseries, following separate unrelated true events. Series creators are Alexander and Karaszewski did not return after the first season.

The first season, subtitled The people v/s O.J. Simpson, presents the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson. This season explores the murder case as well as the combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s history with the city’s African-American community that gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

The actors have all played their characters to the T and the story grips the audiences attention right from the first moment till the last. The jury system of justice has been highlighted and what are its pros and cons. The story unfolds in a way in which we are kept at the edge of our seats wondering who has committed the crime and will justice be served and the criminal be punished.

For all those who haven’t watched it yet please do, its worth a watch !

Grandmama’s Cafe: A cafe review

If your looking to eat some comfort food, like grandma’s make, look no more, grandmama’s cafe, lets you choose from the kitchen of three grandma’s and their delectable cuisines. The Grandma’s and hence the menu choices hail from Mumbai, Parsi and Italian influences.

With a variety of drinks, food and desserts to choose from across these cuisines you will leave the cafe with your hunger satiated.

The interiors are also very cosily done up and makes one feels as if they have stepped into a fairy tale grandma’s parlour.

The owners opened their franchise cafe, 3 years ago, on the busy streets of Dadar, Mumbai. Their only motto then was to serve simple food prepared by special hands, in the comfort of a place that makes you want to stay back for more!
They thought that in times, when people have forgotten about not just the simple joys of spending time with your loved ones but also relishing basic comfort food, they are awed that Grandmama’s Cafe was loved enough to spread across 6 locations in Mumbai.

We really enjoyed this cozy cafe, when we recently visited its Ghatkopar, Mumbai branch, hope you get to visit and enjoy their simple and lovely menu too.

I have some unfinished business with myself and the world

Nobody warned me and in this world I was hurled

To finish my business on my own, all alone

To find my path and stick to it, all alone,

Then came the little voice in my head, nudging me towards the finish

Softly supporting me, not letting my enthusiasm diminish

To that voice I say once more

To just throw a little light, on whats in store

musicListening to my favourite song,

Makes me believe nothing would go wrong !

Songs have the power to make you sing,

They become like talismans, held tight amongst your favourite thing !

Sing along louder the next time your favourite song is on,

It will firmly make you believe nothing can go wrong !

Colouring as therapy for adults

According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy is a mental health profession in which the process of making and creating artwork is used to “explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety and increase self-esteem.”

Despite the fact that coloring and art therapy aren’t quite the same thing, coloring does offer a slew of mental benefits. Coloring definitely has therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus or bring about more mindfulness. Groundbreaking research in 2005 proved anxiety levels dropped when subjects colored mandalas, which are round frames with geometric patterns inside.

Just like meditation, coloring also allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus only on the moment, helping to alleviate free-floating anxiety. It can be particularly effective for people who aren’t comfortable with more creatively expressive forms of art.
So why wait, grab your colours and colour away !

Then I wonder how the word quit entered my life ?

I wonder, did life teach me this lesson, or my peers,

Who encouraged me and who encouraged my fears ?

I asked life once again what to do when I am stuck

Life says, work hard and you will find your way, I will provide the luck

Gold : Not a movie review

Gold: The Dream That United Our Nation is a 2018 Indian Bollywood sports drama film based upon the  India’s national hockey teams performance at the 1948 summer olympics, directed by Reema Kagti. It stars in significant roles Akshay Kumar, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh amongst others.

After India’s independence, a drunk Indian Hockey Team Manager (pre-independence), Tapan Das played by Akshay Kumar, holds aspirations of playing hockey as a free country, coaching a novice hockey team to earn independent India’s first Olympic gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics while battling his own personal demons and the independence era situations.

Tapan Das takes us on a journey of hockey and its stars as a national sport of India from pre-independence to independence era. He and the hockey team want to win a gold for free India. The story traces how they manage without funds and how partition divides the team and new players have to be found to replace some old ones.

Akshay Kumar is one again seen in a commendable role and manages to convince us that he is a drunk Bengali. Kunal Kapoor and Amit Saad both play important roles in the movie and have done justice to their characters.

All in all its a good and informative movie and helps us understand the genesis of hockey as a game in India.

Sarnath : Wanderlust

Sarnath is a place located 10 kilometres north-east of Varanasi, near the confluence of the Ganga and Varuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh, India. This is the deer park in Sarnath is where Gautam Buddha first taught the Dhamma and enlightenment of Buddha took place under the Bodhya tree.

There is a statue of Gautam Buddha placed there under the tree to signify, how he got enlightenment and where exactly did it take place. Here in the premises of the temple there are parks and temples at various spots and takes about half an hour along with a guide to see and understand the significance of it all.

This is the statue of Gautam Buddha in one of the many temples of the premises. This city is mentioned by the Buddha as one of the four places of pilgrimage to which his devout followers should visit, if they wanted to visit a place for that reason. The legend says that when the Buddha-to-be was born, some devas came down to announce it to 500 rishis. The rishis all rose into the air and disappeared and their relics fell to the ground.

The visit was pleasant and full of interesting spots to see and know about, if your in the area, next time please do visit here.

Nightmares & Dreams

2016-05-17-1334What are nightmares made of, are they here to stay ?

They are scary and I hope to do whatever it takes to keep them at bay !

I dream of a sleep without any nightmares,

A night of peace, a night of sound sleep and no scares !

They say dreams and nightmares, are a reflection of our day,

Wonder what I did today and what will it illicit today ?
